Understanding how to be saved by grace through faith works is critical for any Christian; this will be their foundation in developing a relationship with God.
Salvation by grace through faith is a fundamental belief that neither one’s merit nor action will entail earning or achieving salvation. Rather, it is a gift from God which can only be received by faith.
The concept is central to Christianity and finds its basis in the Bible. The article below elaborates on how to be saved by grace through faith in seven practical ways. By the end of this article, you should have a better insight into what salvation by grace through faith entails and how it applies to your life.
1. Believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior
Believing in Jesus Christ is not only acknowledging His existence but is a personal decision of acceptance with life-changing actions by surrendering one’s will to Him and accepting His offer for salvation. This is the first step on how to get saved. The root for this act of faith can be based, for example, on John 3:16 of the Bible, which shows how much God loves humanity enough that He wants to save us from the consequence of sin.
The Bible teaches us that God so loved the world that He gave His one and only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, that we may not be condemned for our iniquity. Yes, God wants to offer salvation with eternal life despite our flaws and mistakes. This can be a great gift; let a decision be made to believe in Jesus Christ.
Luke 15:11-32 gives the perfect illustration of how faith in Jesus Christ can change your life. No matter if at any time in life we think we have reached rock bottom and are far away from God, He accepts us with open arms in His embracing love. All we need to do is believe in His son, Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for our sins and rose again on the third day.
The first step of this journey of faith-believe in Jesus Christ-may bring peace and joy into your life and give meaning and direction. So, take that first step today. Confess your sins to God; ask for forgiveness, and invite Jesus Christ into your heart as your Lord and Savior. It is a decision that can change your life for good, and there’s no time like now to start that journey. Jesus wants to help you sail through in this life, so if you have ever asked how to be saved according to Jesus? The Bible says in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavily laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light”.”.
If you will give Jesus the wheels of your life, say this prayer:
Dear God,
I come to You today for my salvation. I know that I have sinned and fallen short of Your glory. I ask for Your forgiveness, and the grace to turn away from my sins.
I believe Your Son, Jesus Christ, who took upon Himself the Cross and died for my sins, then rose again on the third day. I proclaim Him as my Lord and Savior, and I ask that He would come into my heart and save me.
Thank You for Your love and mercy. I have faith in You. And give You my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
Amen.
2. Repent of your sins and turn away from them
Have you ever felt the weight of the world was on your shoulders? Maybe that weight was guilt, shame, or regret from something you did and you knew was wrong. We have all been there in our lives at one time or another. But here is the good news: there is a way to lighten that load and find true freedom.
The second step on how to get saved is to repent of our sins and turn away from them. This means we are willing to release that heavy weight and give it to God. It is like taking off the backpack full of rocks and handing it over to someone who could carry it for us. God wants to take our burdens and replace them with His love and grace.
I think this can be noticed in the entire Bible, where many repented and changed their ways of evil. One of my favorite accounts is about Zacchaeus, which can be read in Luke 19.1-10. A rich but greedy tax collector, hated by people in his community, once Jesus came to town, he climbed a tree just so he could see Him. Jesus noticed him and invited Himself over to dinner at Zacchaeus’ house. During their discussion, Zacchaeus repented of his sins and promised to give half of his possessions to the poor and repay fourfold the amount he cheated from others. Jesus declared that salvation came that day to the house of Zacchaeus.
It was a story showing us that no matter how far we have gone away from God, He accepts and opens His merciful arms to us. Of course, we must be willing to repent and turn away from our sinning ways.
So, if you’re feeling weighed down by some form of guilt or shame, remember that there’s a way out. Turn to God, ask for forgiveness, and make a commitment to follow Jesus. This is one of the steps to salvation. Says Psalm 32:5, “Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.’ And you forgave the guilt of my sin.”
3. Confess Your Sins to God
Let me ask you a question. Have you ever blown it? Perhaps you have done something in which you regret having taken part, you have hurt someone important to you, or you simply made a mistake that has been gnawing at you. It is no fun feeling that way is it?
But here’s the good news: you don’t have to carry that burden alone. The third step on how to be saved and release that weight for peace is to confess your sins to God. It is like taking off a heavy backpack after a long hike-you all of a sudden feel lighter and freer.
Think about King David. A powerful and respected kingly man, he made the fatal mistake of sleeping with Bathsheba and killing her husband Uriah. Confronted by the prophet Nathan about this, David could have denied or somehow justified his actions. Instead, he came clean about his wrongdoing and asked God for forgiveness.xcf 2 Samuel chapter 11. He knew he could not run from his mistakes; he knew true healing could only come from his acceptance of them. And so it is with us: in confessing to God, we admit our imperfections but show our willingness to try and improve; we open ourselves up to change and growth.
How cool is that? God’s always ready and willing to forgive us. As 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” It is just like resetting the button on our lives-we get to start all over again with fresh eyes.
Obeying God’s commands are not just about observing a set of regulations but about entering into a relationship with God, where we show Him our love and respect. Our trust in God and the faith that His way is indeed the best way could be cited as the reasons for us to obey God’s commands.
Well, when you are burdened by guilt or shame, take some time to speak with God. Share what is in your heart with Him and ask that He forgive you. You might be surprised how much better you will feel afterwards.
4. Obey Godโs Command
In contrast, while being obedient to the commands of God, one opens up to the blessing and love of God in his life. For example, just like when one follows a recipe, one will enjoy a nice meal, similarly by following God’s commands, the life will be filled with joy and accomplishment.
Obedience is not always easy, of course. Sometimes God’s commands run counter to our own desires, or to the desires of the world around us. We will often find strength and encouragement in knowing we are not alone; throughout history, untold numbers of men and women have made the right choice to obey God, even when it was hard or unpopular.
So let us commit ourselves to following God’s commands-not out of obligation but out of desire. Let us be willing to believe His way is the best way and open ourselves up to the blessings He has for us. After all, as the psalmist penned, “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word” (Psalm 119:9).
5. Trust In God’s Promises
It would be like trusting in the promises of God, where one jumps off a high dive into the pool of water-very frightening, yet knowing that leap of faith one takes, the water catches them. And when we come to the trust of the promises of God, by jumping, He catches us and fulfills His promise to us.
What follows here is somewhat similar to this: if you are playing in the game of tug-of-war, and on your team, you have with you some big and muscular player, then you can be quite assured that you will win. In like manner, when we trust God’s promises, we know that on our side we have the most ultimate teammate – the all-powerful, all-knowing God of the universe; and with Him, we have been confident that at the end, we will come out on top.
Another of my favorite stories about trusting in God’s promises is that of Daniel. Thrown into the lion’s den, Daniel didn’t freak out or feel hopeless. He had trusted in God’s promise that He would always be his protection. What happened? God shut the mouths of the lions, and Daniel came out without a single scratch! Talk about a crazy victory!
Another example is in the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Being thrown into the fiery furnace did not make them cower in fear. They trusted God’s promise to be with them, even in the midst of the flames, and what happened? Not only were they not harmed, but a fourth figure appeared in the furnace with them-whom many believe to be Jesus Himself!
6. Seek Fellowship with Other Believers
Fellowship with other believers is our final point on how to be saved. Humans are wired to connect and live in community. We need good relationships with people around us, especially those who have similar beliefs and values. For a Christian, this fellowship is an indispensable part of being a Christian.
Where do we go to when we are trying to make a big decision, or when things get tough, or when we’ve messed up-whether seeking advice or encouragement? This is the community that may give us the wise counsel and encouragement we need. And when a victory or milestone is achieved, having other people to share in the joy makes it even more real.
The concept of community appears throughout the Bible in numerous ways. Remember how Moses, when he grew weary of holding up his arms in battle against the Amalekites, had his friends Aaron and Hur come alongside to hold up his arms and secure the victory? Exodus 17:12 In a similar vein, the paralytic who was let down through the roof to be healed by Jesus was healed because of the faith of his friends. Mark 2:1-12.
And of course, there is the early church at Jerusalem that made it a priority to frequently assemble together in prayer, in the study of Scripture, and in sharing life with one another-Acts 2:42-47. They were an encouragement in hard times, helped one another out as different needs arose, and shared together in God’s goodness.
7. Trust in God’s Mercy
Do you ever feel you are never good enough-that you try and try, but you never quite reach other people’s expectations or even your own? If so, then be assured you are not alone. A lot of us at one time or another feel inadequacy or a feeling of failure.
But the good news is that there does exist a way of being saved from these feelings of incompetence and failure. It’s through trusting in God’s mercy and grace, which are freely offered to us through faith in Jesus Christ.
You see, the Bible teaches that all are sinners-meaning we fall short of God’s perfect standards and are in need of forgiveness. But the beauty in God’s mercy and grace is that they provide a way whereby we can be saved and reconciled unto Him, though highly imperfect.
Trust in His mercy means recognizing one’s sins and asking for His forgiveness. It might be painful and humiliating, but when contrite of heart, He has promised to forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Faith in God’s mercy simultaneously involves the spreading of that same mercy to others. As our Lord Jesus himself taught, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy” (Matthew 5:7). When we show compassion and forgiveness to others, it reflects His love and grace shown to us.
So, if you feel like you are not worthy or that you will never measure up, keep in mind that you can be saved by grace through trusting in God’s mercy. This is not about how good you are or how much you can pull off yourself; this is putting your faith in Jesus Christ and allowing God’s love and forgiveness to transform your life.
One of the ways on how to be saved by grace is through trusting in God’s mercy. It means realizing our inadequacy, asking forgiveness from God, and trusting in His provision and care for us. It can give hope, comfort, and purpose to our lives, and it may encourage showing mercy and compassion to others.
Conclusion
Being saved by grace through faith is one of the foundational beliefs that Christians have. It is the idea that we cannot be able to pay for our salvation through our works; rather, this is a gift from God, which is received through faith. Understanding how to be saved by grace through faith is therefore important for each and every Christian, for such acts as the very foundation upon which their relationship with God stands. Here are ten practical ways in which we may further our understanding of grace and faith while experiencing the transformative power of God’s love and mercy in our lives.
