If you have recently discovered the good news of Jesus, Hallelujah! The Kingdom of God is expanding!
If you’re new to the Christian faith, you may be feeling excited, curious, and a little intimidated. I remember feeling VERY overwhelmed the first few times I attempted to read the Bible, but as I kept reading and seeking God..something amazing started to happen.
He started to give me eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart to understand.
I would read the same scriptures again and again and God would show me SO many things that had never occurred to me the previous times I read. I was beginning to understand how God spoke to me through His written word!
If you’re delving into the bible for the first time, I want to encourage you to stick with it. Even when you’re confused, frustrated, and lacking understanding. Spiritual growth takes time and He is eager to impart wisdom to you. And He is so happy that you’re seeking a relationship with Him through His word.
The Bible is the living water that grows our seed of faith every time we seek Him!

15 Bible Verses Every New Christian Should Know
1. John 3:16-17
This verse beautifully summarizes the gospel message and the depth of love God has for mankind. God loves us so much that He sent His one and only Son Jesus to die for us on the cross. Without Jesus we would have died in our sins… But we will be saved if we put our faith in His saving grace.
Romans 8:28
There’s no doubt that we will face seasons of hardship on our journey of faith. But God promises to work all things together for our good, even when we don’t understand. God stands outside of time and can see our past, present, and future all at once. When life presents us with uncertainties, we can always hold onto the truth that God is holding us in his righteous right hand and that His plan is perfect!
Proverbs 3:5-6
This is something we must live by daily as followers of God. Our human nature will naturally want to act contrary to God, but it’s our job to submit to His will and do things His way. Live out every day in reverence to Him and always seek to please Him in your thoughts, words, and actions.
Romans 6:23
We have all fallen short of the glory of God and we are all sinners, that’s why we need Jesus to save us. Jesus is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, so the only way to be saved is by putting our faith in Him. Those who choose to remain in sin and do not turn away from the world to follow Christ will die in their sin and will spend eternity separated from God.
Galatians 5:22-23
Galatians 5:22-23 lists the attributes followers of Christ should possess. When we allow God’s spirit to be in control of our lives, we will produce the fruit of unconditional love for God and others.
Ephesians 2:8-10
As Christians, we MUST recognize the important distinction that we are saved through the grace of God and Jesusโ sacrifice on the cross alone. Salvation through faith in Jesus is the free gift of God. The changing of our hearts and actions are a result of coming into a good conscience toward God, but nothing we outwardly do can save us. When we align our free will with what God wants for us, we get to experience our true purpose and He will lead us to do the things He created us to do since the beginning of time.
Matthew 28:19-20
Jesus told His followers to go make disciples of all nations after He had risen from the dead. This is the great commission! Baptism is an important part of becoming a Christian because it represents our death, burial, and resurrection with Christ. When we are dunked into the water, it illustrates our sins being washed clean by His blood and being resurrected from spiritual death, into spiritual life.
2 Corinthians 5:17
When we come into a true relationship with God, there are lots of worldly things we need to leave behind in the world to follow God appropriately. There may be people, habits, activities, music/TV, etc God convicts you to leave behind because they are not of Him. This is a process we constantly undergo as Christians in order to live in a way that is pleasing to God. None of us will ever be perfect, but itโs important to constantly be striving toward being like Jesus in every area of our lives.
James 1:2-4
In life, it is inevitable that we will encounter difficult times. As uncomfortable as it is to go through temptations, hard times and pain; the highs and lows we experience on our spiritual journey are essential in producing the character God needs us to have to carry out His will in our lives. God is the potter and we are the clay for Him to mold into the vessels we are created to be. Thankfully, the love of God is sufficient to sustain us through every trial we face.
Isaiah 41:10
God tells us incessantly throughout the bible not to fear. This is because faith and fear cannot coexist and He wants us to put our faith in Him. When we are feeling weary and overwhelmed by life, remember that God is walking through every mountain and valley with us.
Galatians 2:20
This bible verse describes the new beginning we have Christ living in our hearts. How we have been crucified with Christ and died to sin and we are a new creation by His grace and the power of God.
1 Thessalonians 6:16-18
God’s will is that we are joyful and thankful at all times, even when it seems impossible to have joy. As children of God, we can have faith in knowing that the God of hope is working things together for our good so we can rejoice in both our gains and our loss. Similarly, we are to always pray because we are not in control of our lives. Prayer keeps us close to the heart of God so we can endure all things in faithful patience.
1 John 1:9
Repentance of sins is a necessary part of following God because it shows that we recognize our shortcomings and come into an agreement with God that they are sinful. True repentance warrants a turning away from the behavior and walking forward in holiness. God loves us so much that He gave us Jesus, and He wants to forgive us. However, we have to acknowledge when our behavior is sinful and ask for that forgiveness.
Mark 12:30-31
Jesus describes the two most important commandments which are to love God with all your heart and to love your neighbor as yourself. We can show our love to God by living in obedience to His word and following Jesus. But it isn’t enough to just love God, He expects us to exemplify the love we have for Him to others around us too. The love living in our hearts should be apparent to those we cross paths with, making people want to know the love of Jesus for themselves.
2 Timothy 3:16
The word of God has answers for everything we will face in life, and His word can speak to us differently during different seasons of our lives too. The Bible sheds light on our faults and shortcomings and can help us recognize what we need to change.
John 14:6
We can find everything our hearts desire in Jesus, because He is the only path to truth, love and life. Having faith in Jesus is the only way to heaven.
