This post is all about the dangers of New Age spirituality.
In this world, many are searching for answers.
People are desperate to find purpose in a world that attempts to make us feel so insignificant and accidental. Amid the varying ideologies, religions, and perspectives of the meaning of life, it can be hard to find your bearings.
But at the end of the day, thereโs only one Truth, and few find it.
Before I found God, I aimlessly searched for the truth; traversing down deep rabbit holes of information and curious about life’s supernatural and esoteric components.
Eventually, my search for meaning led me to dip my toes into New Age spirituality, an attractive-looking deception many wander into searching for peace and answers.
Thankfully God woke me up and showed me the true nature of the New Age movement before I wandered off too far.
I feel called to write this blog post because New Age spirituality is on the rise in todayโs society and many donโt understand that itโs one of Satanโs favorite ways to entrap our vulnerable souls looking for peace and solace.
In this post we will explore the origins, dangers, and biblical view of the New Age movement, and why Christians must stay far away from it.
What Is New Age?
New Age is a rapidly growing belief system encompassing many (sometimes contradictory) autonomous beliefs, religious practices, and organizations. It combines the theology of pantheistic Eastern religion with occultic and mystical techniques.
It manifests in different forms, under various names and beliefs including:
The new age movement has a wide range of beliefs including astrology, black & white magic, aura, chakras, chi energy, crystals, druidism, extraterrestrials and UFOs, eastern mysticism, Gaia, Gnosticism, Hinduism, native american spirituality, nirvana, psychic, reincarnation, shamanism, spiritism, tai chi, Taoism, tarot cards, transcendental meditation, witchcraft, yoga, zen, and yin-yang.
New Age Central Beliefs
All of these differing sects believe one or more of these beliefs:
- There is divine energy inherent in every part of the universe/โGodโ and the โUniverseโ are the same, (yet reject the monotheistic idea of God.)
- Everything is God/God is everything
- Man is eternal and never truly dies
- Man is part God and We have everything in ourselves necessary to achieve fulfillment. We exist to guide ourselves, heal ourselves, and fulfill our destinies.
- Oneโs personal experience validates the truth
The New Age ideology revolves around objective morality, where their ideals are constructed based on โwhat feels rightโ to them, rather than a concrete right and wrong way to live set in place by God Himself.
One of the hallmarks of New Age spirituality is the worship of self, toting the idea that you perfect the way you are…Rather than the truth that people are sinful, and in need of God’s rule and grace.
New Agers believe that every person has forgotten about their divinity, and they are on this journey of life aiming to achieve โhigher consciousnessโ through various New Age practices.
What The Bible Has To Say
The origins of New Age spirituality go back to the Garden of Eden described in Genesis 3:4-5.
โAnd the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.โ
This was the original lie Satan used to deceive Eve and get her to question Godโs word and authority. Even though God had given them the simple instruction to not eat the forbidden fruit, they chose to believe Satan’s lie and rebel against God. Satan tempted them by suggesting that they would receive knowledge that would make them enlightened and โlike Godโ.
This is the same lie being sold to vulnerable souls buying into new-age spirituality today.
Deuteronomy 18:9-14 also says:
โWhen you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or a spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD; because of these same detestable practices, the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the LORD your God.โ
There is nothing new under the sun and this verse describes how God feels about these forbidden practices.
Anyone participating in the New Age (which is a revived version of ancient paganism) is attempting to seek spiritual knowledge in a corrupted way.
These practices are detestable to God because people using them undermine God’s wisdom and authority. Instead of seeking to gain understanding by walking the right path with God, New Age-ers choose to trust the lies of evil spirits aiming to trap their souls.
A very telling quote from Helena P. Blavatsky, a pioneer of the current New Age movement. From from her book “The Secret Doctrine”.:
“One of the most hidden secrets involves the so-called fall of Angels. Satan and his rebellious host will thus prove to have become the direct Saviours and Creators of divine man. Thus Satan, once he creases to be viewed in the superstitious spirit of the church, grows into the grandiose image. It is Satan who is the God of our Planet and the only God. Satan (or Lucifer) represents the Centrifugal Energy of the Universe this ever-living symbol of self-sacrifice for the intellectual independence of humanity.”
Helena P. Blavatsky, The Secret doctrine
The Spiritual Nature of The World:
Sadly, most people donโt understand the spiritual implications of what theyโre getting involved with when they get involved with New Age.
The truth is that there is a spiritual realm invisible to the human eye that affects everything happening around us and within us. There is a constant battle between good vs evil, angels fighting on our behalf against demons who desire to feed on the defilement of our souls.
Ephesians 6:12 says
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
I don’t subscribe to the belief that demons cause people to sin because God has given each person the gift of free will…and He allows us to choose to walk with Him or not. However, I do believe that the more one willfully sins, the more one opens up one vessel to demonic oppression.
If one isn’t filled with the Holy Ghost and focused on bearing the fruits of the Spirit like Christ commands us to…One will be left open to the influence of evil spirits desiring to live vicariously through one’s vessel.
In the case of New Agers, they think they’re gaining special insight and wisdom from the stars, spirit guides, or whatever belief system they subscribe to…When in reality, they are being enticed to believe an alluring lie from the enemy himself.
They are communing with demons when they choose to participate in these practices.

There’s always a counterfeit.
Satan always provides a counterfeit to what God offers us, especially in the context of New Age spirituality. Here’s an example:
Praying vs manifesting
Praying is petitioning the throne of God with our requests, knowing that He is the ultimate authority and He is in control.
Manifesting denies God’s authority by declaring affirmations of one’s wishes and believing the “universe” will bring them to fruition. People believe they have power they don’t possess and are in control of their futures.
We get our meaning from Christ:
As Christians, we know Christ is the gift we’re all searching for and the secret few find. We know that it’s by His blood and abundant love that we are saved and we can live joyfully knowing that we belong to Him.
We’re here for a purpose and can live confidently knowing the word of God is true, it provides every answer we need, and all we need to achieve ultimate peace and happiness is to walk by faith in Christ’s footsteps.
How To Encourage A New Age-er To Seek Jesus
Sadly, many reject Christ because they donโt want to accept they would need to change the way theyโre living to be Holy before Him.
People love their sin, and it’s why Christ said the path to Him is narrow and, few find it.
Itโs important to keep in mind that New Agers are lost and they’re seeking meaning in all the wrong places.
When an opportunity arises, we should be forward with people about our beliefs that Christ is the truth and how He has changed our lives for the better.
Many people won’t be receptive to our views, but we should always have the boldness to profess the name of our Lord and faithfully plant a seed, knowing that our God is a miracle worker who desires no one to perish.
Otherwise, we need to pray that God lifts the veil from their eyes so they can see Godโs sovereignty for what it is.
The best way to get our loved ones to acknowledge Christ is to live by example and live our lives to produce fruit for God.
In conclusion,
New Age spirituality is one of the most dangerous traps the Devil has set in front of people to date. Itโs Satanโs ploy to entrap people longing for peace, meaning, abundance, and connection, by providing them with an alluring counterfeit of the peace only obtainable with Christ.
When we’re aware of the dangers of the New Age, we can help wake up our sleeping brothers and sisters and hopefully plant a seed that will bring them home to Christ.
