This post is all about the power of gratitude and how God works in our thankfulness to Him.
God has given us many tools to overcome challenges, experience the miraculous, and live a victorious life
as believers. One of these tools is gratitude. Gratitude is a simple tool that unlocks the gate of heaven and
makes God pour down His blessings on us. As a child of God, you must learn to form an attitude of
gratitude to quiet storms and level mountains in your life. Are you seeking ways to activate the habit of
gratitude in your life and unlock divine blessings? Keep reading to discover the power of gratitude.
Gratitude works wonder!
Gratitude works wonders
Jesus’ life revealed one truth: gratitude does wonders. Sometimes, a heart of gratitude to God is all you
need to perform miracles, move mountains, and revere the irreversible.
Lazarus had four days. He had been buried, and his body was already decaying. Jesus got to the front of
the tomb where Lazarus was laid and asked that the stone covering the tomb be taken away.
All eyes were fixed on Jesus. They wanted to see how he would match into the tomb, take Lazarus by his
hands, and command him to get up just as he did when he brought a young girl to life (Mark 5:41).
But He didn’t. Instead, “Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. And I
know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may
believe that You sent Me” (John 11:41-42).
After this short prayer of gratitude, Jesus cried out with a loud
voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” And Lazarus, who was dead for four days, jumped up.
Maybe you have fasted, prayed, and given seed offerings, but nothing seems to be working in your life.
It’s time to try the “gratitude strategy.”
Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with
thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all
understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
In other words, anxiety, complaining, and fear will only compound your troubles. However, gratitude fills your heart with God’s
peace that surpasses all understanding.
God wants to perform a miracle in your life, but He wants you to appreciate Him for the ones He did in
the past. Sometimes, we are carried away by our present challenges and forget the many blessings God is
doing in the present and what He has done in the past.
If you look around you, you will see many miracles for which you should be grateful. The miracle of
sleeping and waking, the miracle of sunlight, rain, and fresh air. God is actively doing wonders in our
lives, and He wants to do even more. But you must first thank Him for all He has done.
Remember, gratitude births miracles. All the days of your life, let your prayer be, “Bless the Lord, O my
soul, and forget not all His benefits” (Psalm 103:2).
Gratitude within the storm
Gratitude is not the absence of challenges but the act of focusing on what’s working while ignoring what’s
falling apart in one’s life. Gratitude does not only cushion the pain of challenges but also helps us avoid
them altogether.
What brought sin and its offspring, including pain, sickness, and even death, is not only disobedience but
ingratitude. Adam and Eve had everything anyone needs to thrive in abundance in the Garden of Eden.
However, Eve allowed herself to be drawn to just one thing God forbade them from touching.
If they were genuinely grateful for the numerous trees and fruits around them, they wouldn’t desire the
fruit of only one tree. Therefore, gratitude helps us focus on God’s blessings and keeps us from
disobeying God’s word and inflicting pain on ourselves.
But what if we do everything right, but challenges still come like a turbulent storm that hits our boat as
we sail through life?
James 1:2-3 says, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing
of your faith produces patience.” This scripture opens our eyes to a profound truth in this scripture.
It says if we embrace our trials and challenges with joy and gratitude, we will see the blessings and lessons
in them and not the pain only.
Joseph embraced the agony of betrayal, the chains of slavery, and the rags of the prison with gratitude and
hope in God. Instead of wallowing in self-pity, he ministered to his fellow prisoners by interpreting their
dreams. And God made him ascend to the position of Prime Minister in Egypt, a foreign land.
Therefore, rejoice in your suffering, knowing that your suffering produces perseverance, character, and
hope through God’s love and the power of the Holy Spirit at work in you (Romans 5:3-5).
